Drawing On Light

Medium: Mixed media installation and performance
Dimensions: Black wall 16 x 12 ft. Interior materials variable
Year: 2019

In an enclosed geometric space in the corner of the gallery, light is projected through a single glass globe, casting plays of light and shadow across the structure's interior surfaces. The shadow inside the globe takes physical form, resembling an eye that seems to look back at the viewer. The sphere's shadow on the wall behind traces the same outline.

Inside the corner, a solitary experience is offered to one audience member at a time. A movable handle holds the light source alongside a small mirror. When the performer bends toward the grip, they find their own eyes reflected in the handle's mirror.

Light and shadow become a way of questioning perceived truths, creating a space for viewers to explore the relationship between shadow and physical object, and to examine the fluidity and rigidity of their own beliefs.
